I've never been to Sundance before, and I'm wondering what is a good hotel to stay at that's centrally located to the festival? Is everything within walking distance?

his is the best location in Park City for the Sundance Film Festival.

One bedroom, 1 bath, Queensize bed, pullout sofa bed, kitchenette with refrig, microwave, coffee maker, tv etc.

I have stayed all over park city and deer valley during the festival. Almost anyplace is OK since the bus system is so good. This year I'm staying at the Powder Pointe condos. They are just off of park ave (the shuttle runs down park ave) and within easy walking distance of the Library (one of the venues for films), and a little tougher walking distance to main street (but a fast bus ride). This condo is also well located for skiing - you can walk to the Park City resort There are dozens of condos in this area, near 15th and park ave.

If you are not into skiing, then the prospector square area is good. It is right in the middle of things, with the easiest access to most of the theater venues. There are a number of condo's here. I have stayed at the prospector square condos and they are ok.

The hotels book up fast. The marriott is the headquarters hotel, but it will cost as much as a condo (or more), and is probably already booked. It is right across a courtyard from the Prospector Square condos.

The only down side of prospector square is that it is a ways away from main street - so if you are mainly coming to party hop, then you might look for something closer to main street. The area that I'm in is good, because it is a doable downhill walk home even if the busses are not running.

Planning ahead really helps, so you will do fine.

We have 2 condos in Park City that are available for Sundance. A 2 bedroom unit and a studio. Both are beautiful units in prime locations. Take a look at our website.

Thank you

It sounds like most any location in Park City gets you near the festival, but I'm wondering if anyone has any specific experiences they have had regarding lodging. So... things you wish you would have known when you chose your lodging and the location of your lodging (relative to where you spent most of your time at the festival). I'm hoping to attend the festival in 2007 for the first time and any insights would be great!

Only the city and festival shuttle buses in Park City itself are free. You will need to pay for a shuttle from SLC to Park City.

So the shuttles are free? Even the ones that go back and forth to SLC? Thanks for the help!

Anywhere that is in Park City proper, and within your price range should be fine. "Walking distance" is a relative term at the festival, because what you iwll consider walking distance is directly related to how the weather is at the moment at which you want to walk. The free festival and city buses cover most of the hotels and condo areas so long as you're in Park City. If you're staying somewhere like Kimball Junction, you'll need a car.
